Austin Gomber allows nine runs as Rockies pitchers struggle.

COLORADO Starting pitching was the Rockies' strength into 2022. The team's Achilles' heel.

Austin Gomber gave up career-highs of nine earned runs and 10 hits on Thursday. The Atlanta Braves trounced the Colorado Rockies 13-6 in game one of a four-game series.

Gomber is the latest Rockies starter to struggle. Staff ERA since May 8: 7.01 The squad has won only six of 23, showing how much the Rockies rely on the pitcher.

"Consistent rotation performances are crucial going ahead," manager Bud Black remarked. "No more! Recent beginnings have been difficult."

Germán Márquez, an All-Star last year, has the second-worst ERA among qualifying starts. Antonio Senzatela and Kyle Freeland had 5.40 and 4.96.

He passed the first unscathed. He allowed three runs in the second and one homer in the third. In the sixth, Travis d'Arnaud homered.
